Would You Drive 8 Hours for a Lifetime of Love?

Aida and Gregory knew people who had met online and married, but they weren’t absolutely certain it could happen for them. Gregory says he was “not sure what to expect,” as a “first-timer” both to our site and online personals in general. Aida was a member more than a year before Gregory joined. It only took him two weeks to find her, however. “I felt her honesty,” he says, looking back on his first impression of Aida’s profile. “I also thought she had a beautiful smile!”

“He reached out to me,” Aida remembers. “I didn’t respond the first time he wrote.” Gregory tried again and, reading his profile, Aida was impressed with the class he showed and the specificity of his relationship priorities. “I thought he was a gentleman, and he knew what he was looking for,” she says.

They developed a nice rapport over the phone. “We had so much in common, it was scary,” Gregory jokes. With that established, the couple decided they were ready for the crucial first date. Aida was surprised and delighted when Gregory endured an eight-hour drive to meet her in person. She was also struck by something his profile pic didn’t quite capture about him. “Those beautiful eyes,” she says. “And his sweet smile.”

The date was a smashing success and both say they were “100% sure” there would be a Round 2. “I was surprised at how my feelings grew after we met,” Gregory says. Aida marvels at the magical sensation we call “falling in love” and says she had almost forgotten what it feels like.

As their relationship progressed, Gregory and Aida found that similar backgrounds provided a solid foundation from which to build. “We’re family-oriented and both of us came from a background of structure, respect and love,” Gregory says.

Certain this was the kind of love affair that lasts, Gregory decided to make a big move. “He proposed to me, unexpectedly,” Aida says. “It happened in my bedroom as he was packing to go back home.”

For the countless singles out there seeking a love story of their own, Aida has these words of encouragement. “Don’t rush,” she says. “Make sure you follow your gut—it never lies!”

Gregory agrees. “Yes, give it a chance, but be patient. It’ll all be worth it in the end.”
