Professor's response to a single mum for missing school is UNBELIEVABLE!

This single mom made her professor go viral.

Being a single mom isn’t easy. Think being a single mom while trying to put yourself through school. Spinning the two can be quite tasking, right? Now imagine having to make last-minute child care plans because of something you did not expect.

Well, this is what happened to Morgan King; single mother and university student. She had to miss class. But when she explained to her university professor her reasons for missing class, she did not expect the response she got from her. It was simply unbelievable!

Your perfect partner could be online right now...

What are you looking for?

King, 21, is a Therapeutic Recreation student at the University of Tennessee. And she is so proud to be mommy to her daughter, Korbyn. If juggling school and being a mom to her little lady Korbyn isn't hard enough, she still has to work nights at a restaurant in order to support her child.

Speaking of the day in question, June 14, King had an important class which she inevitably had to miss and take care of her baby. She could not find childcare. Plus, the class had an assignment and quiz.

She sent an email to her professor, Dr. Sally B. Hunter, apologizing for missing the class. Little did she expect the reply that popped up in her inbox. It was so heartfelt that she could not resist sharing it with the world on Twitter. And it won the hearts of many people. They thought it was sweet.

The reply went viral on the internet overnight, with over 26 thousand likes and almost 5 thousand shares. Hunter’s reply was incredibly sincere. It proved just how much a small gesture of humanity can go a long way. Morgan wrote on Twitter that the reply made her cry.

Here goes the email from her professor that became an internet sensation:

“Hey, Morgan,

We were wondering where you were this morning. :-(

I am sorry to hear that childcare issues are what caused you to miss class today. You are welcome to still submit the Video Reflection on Preschooler Development (We watched the Mediasite Videos for Jasper & Rory – 2 year old twins - and for Henry – a 5 year old – today in class). You will have to go to the Mediaste link (which is on our main Canvas homepage) in order to access those two videos.

In the future, if you are having trouble finding someone to watch Korbyn, please feel free to just BRING HER with you to class. I would be absolutely delighted to hold her while I teach, so that you can still pay attention to the class and take notes. I work for the Department of Child and Family Studies—so how terrible would it be, if I was unwilling to have a child visit our class? I am very serious with this offer—just bring Korbyn with you!

Regarding Quiz 5 today, it can be one of the two quizzes that you drop. No worries. And your absence from class today is considered “excused”.

Let me know if there are other ways I could be supporting you!

Dr. H.”

I am sure so many single moms who are still in school gushed over this one; wishing they could have a professor like Dr. Hunter. The thing is, Dr. Hunter empathized with Morgan as she is also a parent and understood Morgan’s struggle.

After Morgan posted the reply on Twitter and it went viral, she told her professor; only to discover that the prof had beat her to it. The prof was delighted that she had made them “Twitter famous”, saying:

“I can’t believe so many people are reacting to that email I sent you earlier this week. Seems to me that inviting Korbyn to class was the decent thing to do.”

Boy, this woman is just amazing. She just can’t herself with her kindness. Imagine the retweets that came after that. People praised her for being a “real teacher”. One acknowledged that such is the kind of stuff we need trending. “This professor deserves a medal”, was a tweet from one, Allison Ivy. Others hailed their teachers for allowing them to take their kids to school.

Kudos professor Hunter.  Now, this is this is the kind of support that every single mom should get.

I took my 4 year old daughter to my class in 'Childhood Development" , the instructor wanted her to introduce her- self & kind of scared her accidently. After that day my daughter said she did not want to go to class with me again. I understood: That professor later went on to do only research.

I was a single mum in school as well. It's tough. I'm still a single mum and wanting to study further, just getting myself into that mindset again. I hope Morgan does great.
